If tall, almost bezel-less displays were a trend in the smartphone industry this year, it seems that display-based fingerprint sensors will be the trend to follow in 2019. Some manufacturers have already released devices with this technology which places the fingerprint sensor underneath the display glass. Just tap your finger and it unlocks the phone. According to a new report, Samsung’s mid-range smartphones may also get display fingerprint sensors in 2019.Advertising
Samsung is expected to jump on this bandwagon with the Galaxy S10 first. It may be the very first device from the company to feature a display-based fingerprint sensor. It may be an ultrasonic sensor supplied by Qualcomm.
A new report out of Taiwan suggests that the company will also be supplying ultrasonic fingerprint sensors for Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy smartphones due next year. It wouldn’t be surprising if Samsung does bring this technology to its mid-range lineup as it has recently revamped its strategy and will now be focusing on offering more advanced tech in affordable devices.
That’s one of the reasons why the company’s and the world’s first smartphone with four rear cameras is a mid-range device called the Galaxy A9. The company aims to compete against the likes of Huawei and Xiaomi that offer better spec’d devices in the same price point so it really needs to stick to this strategy if it wants to maintain its dominance in the market.
