Snapshot: Launching on March 15, the new Ford Figo will be offered in seven variants, including diesel-manual, petrol-automatic and petrol-manual choice of engines along with a number of cosmetic updates.
Ford Motor Company, the American multinational automaker has been in the Indian subcontinent for more than two decades. And now, the company’s Indian wing – Ford India Private Limited – has set 15 March 2019 as the new 2019 Ford Figo Facelift launch date in India. In fact, the revamped Ford model has started reaching showrooms already.
The new Ford hatchback has received a long pending facelift after four years since Ford launched the Figo in India. The March 15 launch of the Ford Figo 2019 model will see several cosmetic and mechanical upgrades made by the American carmaker.
Ford dealerships across India are already accepting orders at a pre-booking amount of Rs. 10,000 for the all-new 2019 Ford Figo Facelift model. It will also feature a black grille, contrast roof and uniquely designed alloy wheels.
Interestingly, it remains to be seen how well the new Figo model will fare in competition with the best-selling four-wheelers in India, such as Hyundai Grand i10 and Maruti Suzuki Swift, and also not counting out the rivalry possible from bigger hatchbacks, such as Hyundai Elite i20 and Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

Exterior – Cosmetic Updates
Looking at the 2019 Ford Figo Facelift images, the India-bound model is almost similar to the new Ka+, which is the name of the Ford hatchback in Europe that was apparently unveiled in 2018. The new Ford Figo’s exterior will have a more premium appeal with the front honeycomb grille sporting a chrome metallic finish, restyled front and rear bumpers, redesigned rear and restyled headlamps. Moreover, another welcome addition to the Ford Figo 2019 India model will be the new set of bigger 15-inch alloy wheels.
The 2019 Ford Figo will sport a refreshed facade similar to the 2019 Ford Aspire sedan. For example, a fresh radiator grille named ‘3D cellular grille’ seen in the sedan variant. The rightly proportionate honeycomb mesh grille this time with the design will offer a highly premium appeal to the front face, not missing out on the headlights which will receive few changes; however, the halogen lights will be retained. The C-shaped chrome appliqué and inverted lower air intake will be the other modifications.
Mechanical Configurations – Engine
The new 2019 Figo Facelift specifications will see the 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre Ti-VCT 4-cylinder petrol motors seen in the former Figo model replaced by the 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre Ti-VCT 3-cylinder petrol motors. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre TDCi 4-cylinder diesel powertrain will be retained. It will be equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox made by Getrag instead of the IB5 5-speed manual gearbox and also a standard six-speed automatic gearbox will replace the six-speed PowerShift DCT.
The 2019 Figo’s key upgrade will be on the powerplant, which will happen to be Ford’s latest engine, the 1.2-litre petrol motor that will churn out 96 hp at 6,500 rpm and 120 Nm of peak torque at 4,250 rpm, and will be paired to a five-speed manual transmission. The top-end Figo petrol-automatic variant will now get Ford’s new 1.5-litre motor that will churn out 123 hp at 6,500 rpm and 150 Nm of max torque at 4,500 rpm and will be mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox, replacing the dual-clutch gearbox.
The 2019 Ford Figo interior will also be impressive. The Figo makeover will boast of a revised dashboard similar to the new Ford Aspire subcompact sedan and the Ford Freestyle hatchback. The 2019 Ford Figo Facelift features will include automatic headlights, keyless entry, push-button start, touch-screen infotainment system and wipers with rain-sense technology. But the new Figo 2019 model will come without Ford’s smart Sync3 system, which has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new Ford hatchback will be safety compliant, adhering to the new safety standards and rules which will take effect from April 2019; hence the new Figo will have ABS, rear parking system with sensors, seat belt warning system and a speed-alert system offered as standard. The range-topping Figo variant will also include top-class 6 airbags and adjustable headrests at the rear.
As Figo bookings are being taken, it remains to be seen whether the 2019 Ford Figo Facelift price in India will be competitive enough to rival tough against Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Swift and VW Polo. The 2019 new Ford Figo facelift model price is expected between Rs. 5-8 lakh.
